Luck, Opportunity and Gratitude – Go together like peas and carrots

--

This post is about three things – luck, being opportunistic and gratitude … and how they tie together beautifully sometimes … if you’ll let it. And today is turning out to be an amazing example of this.

Luck

When you’re lucky – friends and opportunities will find you. Today Wendy and I had two amazing examples of luck.

  • Wendy was on Facebook and noticed our friend Judy had posted that she had two tickets to see the Black Keys tonight in Vancouver. I picked up the phone and called Judy and they were still available … and free … and in an amazing box/suite at Rogers Arena with a buffet. Giddy up, let’s go! (Modest Mouse is opening which isn’t too shabby either)
  • We were the absolutely last car to get on the 4:00 ferry. The 5:00 would have been okay but a little rushed and we would have missed the opening act – instead, as I write this, we are pulling into Tsawwassen on the 4:00 to start an amazing, unplanned evening together

When Opportunity Knocks You Gotta Give’r

There was a lot to figure out with almost no room for error – concerns like … where are we staying, what about the kids, what about work tomorrow, what about the ferry … a whole bunch of “buts”. But taking the tact that ‘we’ll figure it out’, instead of deciding no, we just said yes and we’re on our way!

While Wendy watched Evan’s hockey game, I hurriedly drove over to the Uptown SuperCharger to power up Shawniqua II for the journey (I hadn’t plugged her in for days, not expecting to go on a road trip – 30 minutes, a YouTube video and a coffee later, I was on the road picking up Wendy and Evan to head home and pack).

Why not eh? Life’s short, order dessert first – right Auntie Julie?

Gratitude

We’re so grateful for the generous gift from Judy and Kent. Grateful for the opportunity to spend some time together in an unexpected and adventurous way … and grateful for our kids to being so flexible/cooperative. So we just hit the road – watch this space for updates

So I’ll be late tomorrow at Regroove.
