Why Shawniqua II?
Every Tesla gets a name. Why? Because you have an app (I unlock my car with my phone … I don’t carry keys) and you might own several cars over time – plus giving it a name makes it feel more personal.
SO WHAT
So our car needed a name. And Shawniqua II was an obvious choice…
So who was the original Shawniqua? Well, that’s Wendy (my darling wife) actually. And here’s how that happened…
Remember the app Foursquare? Remember how you could check in to various locations and the more you checked in, the more likely you could become that locations “Mayor” and/or other important sounding (but clearly ridiculous) titles?
Well, for a brief period there, I was the Mayor of Butchart Gardens, Mayfair Mall’s food court, Panorama Arena, etc. What a feeling. The intrigue! Over many months, I had Status!
Alas … one day, I started getting knocked off my pedestal everywhere. “Shawniqua” was obliterating my mayorships! This is BS! Who the F*ck is Shawniqua?
After a few days I figured it out, to Wendy’s delight (giggling away). My wife … you know, the one “too busy to grab me a subway sandwich while she is next door at the Co-Op getting groceries”, still managed to find the time to repeatedly visit and sit in the parking lot at Butchart Gardens, Mayfair Mall, etc., and check in as ‘Shawniqua’, eventually knocking me back down to regular citizen status.
There can only be one Shawniqua. Thus our beautiful Model 3 became “Shawniqua II”.
